In an alternative society with alternative lifestyles anything may be possible, but for the flinkers (males) whose only purpose seems to be to satisfy the sexual desires of the females, surviving at the hands of insatiable women is becoming more and more difficult.  The ruling Council, all female, give Shardine the task of investigating and reporting before the flinkers become extinct, but Shardine has desires and an agenda of her own.  Shardine's finds that her particular ideas are unacceptable to the Council, and she becomes a fugitive from those for whom treating flinkers with even the slightest consideration is an impossible concept.  But there is more going on in Shardine's mind than the liberation of the abused flinkers, and her own lusts take her on a journey from dominant to submissive with little regard for gender.  And the flinkers remain flinkers, mere males to be used and abused as males should be...
